The ANSHAN – Hunger Strike for Absentee Ballot.

24th Jan to 26th Jan 2014.

We did everything what we can do as responsible campaign group & the citizens of our great nation.

We wrote numerous letters, we did peaceful protests, we marched in London & we filed a case with Supreme Court (Writ petition (C) 80 of 2013). Three Judge Bench presided by Honorable Chief Justice issued notice to the Government & Election commission of India in Feb 2013. [http://courtnic.nic.in/supremecourt/temp/wc 8013p.txt].

We have full faith in our justice system, however its time taking process (it might take years of time considering the volume of cases that our honorable courts deal with).

But the 2014 General Elections are not so far away!! All the hard work went in our campaign in dreaming about participating in our democracy in the coming general elections.

NRIs feeling deprived, we have been looked as investors/from the angle of 'donations' - but we are not treated as part of our system? We still hold our passports, we still carry the name of our great nation & pride of it, but unfortunately we are not considered as part of the system. Thanks to "Peoples Representative Act 2010 - Amendment" - But it is just a paper right with out the facility of postal/online ballot.

Overseas citizens of America can vote in their elections through absentee ballot, so do the Canadians, Pakistanis… Absentee Ballot for their abroad citizens is available in almost all the democracies of the world including Asian countries like Indonesia, Pakistan. Unfortunately Postal/Online ballot is still distant dream in India, are we in modern era?

We strongly believe that ours is genuine democratic struggle - therefore the founder of Pravasi Bharat, Mr. Nagender Chindam would like to go one last step of struggle, Three day fasting from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th Jan, 2014.

Even though only few months left for 2014 General Elections - Still there is enough time for Government and the EC officials to facilitate the absentee ballot for us.
